Tracking set up properly, before you spend on marketing.

GA4 and Tag Manager configured and tested, conversion events that actually match what your business cares about, and a plain audit of what’s currently broken.

Most tracking is wrong, and most sites never find out.

Ask most business owners if they trust their Google Analytics numbers and the honest answer is a shrug. Tags get added by three different plugins over the years, none of them checked against each other. Conversion events get set up once, quietly break during a site update, and nobody notices because the dashboard still shows a number, just not an accurate one.

That matters more than it looks. Every decision downstream, what to spend on ads, which pages to improve, whether a campaign is working, rests on numbers nobody has actually verified. Fixing tracking before spending on marketing isn’t a nice-to-have step, it’s the difference between decisions made on real data and decisions made on noise.

We audit first, fix what’s broken, and set up what’s missing, so every report after that means what it says.

What a tracking setup covers.

GA4 and Tag Manager

Set up or rebuilt properly, with tags checked against each other instead of layered on top of whatever was already there.

Conversion events

Forms, calls and purchases tracked accurately, including WooCommerce revenue where the site sells online.

Server-side tagging

Used where it genuinely improves accuracy, particularly for sites running paid ads at real volume.

Consent and privacy

A consent setup that respects Australian privacy expectations, in plain language your visitors can actually read.

Dashboards

A short set of numbers you’ll actually check, built around what matters to your business, not every metric available.

A tracking audit

A clear list of what’s currently broken, what’s missing and what’s fine as it is, before we change anything.

How a setup runs.

Audit what’s there now

We check every existing tag and event against what it’s supposed to measure, and note what’s broken.

Rebuild the tracking plan

Events mapped to the things you count as a result: forms, calls, purchases, key page visits.

Set up and test

GA4, Tag Manager and consent configured, then tested with real actions before we call it done.

Hand over and document

A short document explains what’s tracked and how, so anyone on your team can understand the setup later.

Why get tracking done before you spend on ads.

Broken tracking means every marketing decision is a guess dressed up as data. We treat analytics as the foundation, not an add-on you get around to after the campaign’s already live.

  • We build the tracking ourselves for our own Google Ads and SEO clients, so this is a service we rely on daily, not a side offering.
  • We’re plain about what needs server-side tagging and what doesn’t, rather than selling the more complicated option by default.
  • Because we also build WordPress sites, we can fix a tracking problem caused by the site itself, not just the analytics layer sitting on top.
My GA4 numbers look wrong. Can you tell me why?

Usually, yes, and usually fast. Common causes are duplicate tags firing twice, conversions counted more than once, or events that were never actually configured to track what you think they track. We start every project with an audit that catches most of this in the first sitting.

Do I need server-side tagging?

Not always. It helps with accuracy when browsers block third-party cookies and scripts, and it’s worth doing for sites running paid ads at real volume. For a smaller brochure site, standard tagging done properly is usually enough. We’ll tell you honestly which camp you’re in.

What about cookie consent?

We set up a consent banner that actually controls what fires before and after a visitor responds, in plain language rather than a wall of legal text. We’re not lawyers, so we won’t write your privacy policy, but we’ll make sure the tracking respects whatever consent your visitor gives.

Can you track phone calls as conversions?

Yes. Call tracking connects phone enquiries back to the campaign or page that produced them, which matters a lot for service businesses where most leads still pick up the phone instead of filling in a form.

Do you build dashboards?

Yes, simple ones that show what you actually need to check, rather than every metric Google Analytics can produce. Most clients want a handful of numbers checked monthly, not a data warehouse to get lost in.

How long does setup take?

Usually one to two weeks for a full GA4, Tag Manager and conversion event setup, depending on how many event types your site needs and how much of the existing setup we have to unpick first.
