We didn’t build it. We can still fix it.
Broken after an update, handed over from a previous agency, abandoned mid-build, or just quietly falling apart. We work on WordPress sites regardless of who built them.
The problem
Someone else’s build, now your problem.
Maybe an update broke something and nobody can work out why. Maybe you inherited a site from a previous agency that’s gone quiet. Maybe a freelancer started a build and disappeared halfway through, or the site was thrown together with an AI builder and now does things nobody can explain.
Whatever the story, you are stuck maintaining or repairing code you never chose and cannot fully see inside, which is an entirely normal position to be in and a large part of what we do here.
If the problem is specifically a hack or malware, jump straight to hacked site repair. That’s faster than a general support job.
What we handle
The kinds of jobs we take on.
Broken after an update
A plugin, theme or core update that broke something else on the site. We trace the conflict and repair it.
Inherited from another agency
A full handover, including establishing what is actually in the codebase before we change anything in it.
Half-finished builds
Including sites started with an AI website builder, where we assess what is usable and then finish the job properly.
Slow or unreliable sites
A site that simply doesn’t feel right to use. We diagnose the underlying cause instead of guessing at the symptoms.
Weird, unexplained behaviour
Pages that misbehave, forms that fail silently and admin screens that error out, all traced back to the underlying cause.
Ongoing ad-hoc support
Not every job warrants a full maintenance plan, and plenty of clients simply contact us whenever something needs doing.
Process
How a support job runs.
Access
You send WordPress and hosting credentials, so we can establish the real condition of the site rather than its appearance.
A 30-minute look
We review the code and diagnose what is actually wrong, rather than the symptom you happen to be seeing.
Written diagnosis
A plain-English explanation of the underlying problem and what repairing it properly will involve.
Fixed quote or hourly
For a small job, we usually just start on the hourly rate. For anything larger, we quote a fixed price first.
Fix and handover
We repair the issue and leave you with notes covering what changed and why, so the next person isn’t left in the dark either.
Why Maku
Why people bring us in mid-project.
We’re used to reading other people’s code, including code from tools that write it automatically. That’s a genuinely different skill from building from scratch, and it’s one we practise often because so much of our support work starts this way.
- No judgement about how the site reached its current state, because we are here to repair it rather than critique the last person’s work.
- Reading an unfamiliar codebase is the slow part of rescue work, and it is the part AI helps with most. A diagnosis takes a sitting, not a week.
- If ongoing care makes more sense than one-off support, we’ll say so and point you to our maintenance plans.
Can you fix a site you didn’t build?
Yes, and that is most of what this page is for. We don’t need to have built your site in order to work on it, only access and a little time to understand how it was put together in the first place.
Do I have to rebuild the whole thing?
Rarely, because most sites need targeted fixes rather than a full rebuild. If a rebuild genuinely is the better option, being cheaper and safer in the long run than continually patching something fragile, we will say so and explain the reasoning before you commit to anything.
How do you charge?
Either hourly at an agreed rate, or as a fixed quote once we understand the scope. For a small fix, hourly is usually the faster way to get moving. For a defined project, we’ll scope it and quote a fixed price before starting.
What access do you need?
WordPress admin access and hosting or FTP access, at minimum. If the site uses a page builder, custom plugin or third-party integration, logins for those too where relevant.
Do you take over from another agency?
Yes, and this happens often. We’ll ask you to let your previous agency or freelancer know that access is changing hands, but we don’t need them involved in the handover itself.
Can you finish a site someone else started?
Yes, including sites started with an AI website builder. We’ve picked up half-finished builds from freelancers, agencies and DIY tools. We assess what’s usable, what needs redoing, and quote from there.
What if my site is just running slowly, not broken?
That’s still a support job, and often a quick one at that. If speed is the main issue, our speed optimisation service goes considerably deeper, with before-and-after measurement on your actual pages.
